The lips are one of the most noticeable parts of the human face, and a smile on the healthy pink lips may make the viewer’s mood change in seconds. Deep lip wrinkles or rough lips may give a different first impression.

What are the reasons behind lip wrinkles? Lip wrinkles develop due to the aging processes and scientists separate two distinct types of aging: internal aging and external aging.

Internal aging is inevitable, and it includes natural aging (diminishing of natural collagen and elastin), inevitable gravity forces, and such. A type of deep lip wrinkles known as Perioral wrinkles are seen in cases of older people. Wrinkles, in this case, grow worse and worse year after year.

External aging can be partially avoided, and it includes sun exposure, cold wind, smoking, sleeping on your side or on the stomach, and repetitive vivid facial expressions. The majority of avoidable wrinkles is formed due to high exposure to sun, smoking and very low temperatures.

It is very important to take considerable care of your lips in order to maintain that they look good, and to slow down the process of your lips starting to become wrinkled, dry, or rough. What can be done to prevent your lips from wrinkles? The easiest and the cheapest way of protecting your lips are anti-wrinkle lip creams. Applying the cream regularly for a period of several weeks might solve the problem for many people.

However, deep lip wrinkles sometimes might not go away even after using anti wrinkle balms, and they often require a surgical intervention, such as: injectable fillers, face lifts, chemical peeling, and laser resurfacing. These procedures need to be discussed with your dermatologist, because even though they are highly effective (e.g., a laser surgery takes roughly an hour and after the surgery, the person is totally free of lip wrinkles), they also possess some unpleasant side-effects, including irritation, redness, uneven pigmentation, bruising, and long recovery times.

Instead of getting surgical procedures done in the future, it is better to apply anti wrinkle cream daily at the early periods of wrinkle formation. Such creams serve two purposes: preventing lips from getting wrinkled and treating the existing wrinkles on the lips. Deep lip wrinkles are formed when no action is taken against the existing minor ones. The longer time these wrinkles are allowed to stay and not acted upon, the deeper and harder to cure these wrinkles become. So, it is preferable to take protection at the beginning to prevent deep wrinkles, which are more difficult to get rid of.
